What will happen during the safety checks?

  3. What will happen during the safety checks?

There are two parts to the safety checks:-

  1. Gas appliances are working safely

The Gas Safe registered engineer will carry out a standard gas safety check on your appliances. If all appliances are found to be safe, you will be given an up to date gas safety certificate for your home and a carbon monoxide alarm if you do not already have one.

  1. Gas appliances will work effectively with a hydrogen and normal gas blend

A specialist gas testing engineer will check the performance of your appliances with bottled ‘test gases’. These will be connected to your gas meter and performance data from your appliances will be recorded. The balance of hydrogen and normal gas in the test gases is being decided following laboratory research, and includes a suitable safety margin.

The checks will take approximately 2 hours. You will be provided with temporary heating during that time if required. The checks will be carried out by a two person team, one Gas Safe registered engineer and a gas testing engineer from Kiwa, who specialise in gas testing and certification.

You can find out more detail on the checks in a short animation available here.
