The monitor has been given to you as part of your normal gas safety check to provide extra safety protection for you and your home as a domestic gas user. Monitors are already in place in all Keele owned properties, and this is an opportunity to ensure that other properties on site also benefit from this important protection.

About Carbon Monoxide

Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless and tasteless gas which can be produced when fuels including gas, oil, coal or wood don’t burn properly due to:

  • An incorrectly fitted gas appliance.
  • A poorly maintained gas appliance.
  • A blocked flue, chimney or vent.
  • A disposable or gas BBQ that’s not properly extinguished.

Breathing in even small amounts of carbon monoxide can seriously damage your health, as it stops blood from carrying oxygen to your body’s cells, tissues and organs. While deaths from CO poisoning are rare, about 4,000 people are diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning each year, so it’s important to protect you and your home.
