The hydrogen for HyDeploy will be generated on demand at the Keele site in an electrolyser using water. Electrolysis uses electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen.
The electrolyser installation will be assessed to ensure safe operation (for example, compliance with industry standards). In addition, the electrolyser and blending units will be fitted with gas detection and response systems.
The electrolyser produces oxygen as a by-product. The oxygen will be vented at a high level such that it readily disperses.
A number of electrolysers produced by ITM are currently operating in the UK and abroad for both blending into the gas grid and for hydrogen refuelling stations.
